How To Manage With Slow Players

There is not a person out there who plays golf that thinks waiting on the group in front of them is a good thing. There isn’t another sport where each players rhythm can get out of whack due to other players. If you are playing on a course with a lot of traffic, waiting is unavoidable. It could be that there are bad players out there taking lots of shots or other players who research each shot to the point where it takes them forever to execute.

You know at some point you are going to deal with slow play, but how does one do it? These are some tips I tell my students.

Have a good disposition out on the course. You could be doing 1,000,000 other things at the time, but you are doing a hobby that you enjoy. Look around and take in the surroundings. Have a dialogue and speak to your playing partners. Play small games with them on the tee box to use the time. Whatever you do, keep positive. Getting annoyed will not speed anyone up and will just cause you to not have an excellent time.

If you need to keep yourself in rhythm with the constant beginning and stopping then you have to have a preshot routine. Have some way to reset your mind and tell your subconsious that it’s time to get ready. This will enable you to improve your focus and concentration so that you can give each shot your best.

The other possibility is to select when you play. Stick to the “off” times like early in the morning on weekends or the middle of the weekdays when there aren’t very many groups in front of you. Join a country club where there aren’t very many members. Avoid the popular courses.

Nervous On The 1st Hole

One of the issues many golfers deal with on the golf course is getting off to a bad start. Some golfers hit one bad shot, get it out of the way and they can relax and start playing. Others permit one bad drive to ruin the initial few holes and basically their whole day.

Almost all of the time bad starts can be traced to nerves on the first tee. You don’t have to accept this nervousness as a fact of existence. Instead you can learn how to handle it so you get your rounds started on the right foot. Here is how.

Nerves are typically caused by the unknown. You haven’t hit a drive all day so on your first shot you do not know where it’s going. If you would like to make preparations for your first shot you can go to the range before the round and hit 1 or 2 balls. Do not simply whack away though, instead picture the hole you are about to play and try to hit a shot similar to what you have to do on the first hole. Pick out one or two markers on the range. One you will aim at and 2 others which will act as limits you have got to keep the ball between. If you hit a few successful shots in a row, you’ll have nothing to be afraid of on the 1st hole.

You don’t necessarily have to physically hit balls though. A peculiar quirk with our subconscious is that it doesn’t know what’s real and what’s clear imagination. If you are running late to the course try visualizing the shot you’re going to hit on the first hole. Be as detailed as practicable starting from approaching the box to your preshot routine and ultimately feel your ideal swing while watching the ball fly thru the air and stop.

Try those two tricks and you are going to be able to play better right from the start.

Get Your Body Ready For Your Round

Golf is a sport. You might not have to be amazingly athletic to play it, but it is a sport nonetheless. Is there any sport that you attempt to play that you don’t warm up for? Do you actually think basketball players just jump right onto the court? Do football players stretch before slamming into each other? Then why do most golfers pass on the getting loose part and think they can come out of the automobile and start playing without any warm up at all?

If you need to play better from the start of the round you need to loosen up with a proper golf warmup routine. With these straightforward tips you’re going to feel great and play great from the first tee to the last shot.

Legs

The legs are the base of your stance, so you need to make sure they are warm and prepared. I like to stretch the hamstrings by grabbing my feet (or reach down as far as is comfortable). Keep your legs straight and pull down with your chest, not your head.

Back

Stretch your back by doing some trunk twisters. Don’t want to look silly? Then place the club flat along your back and pretend like you are turning as you would when you swing.

Shoulders

Hold your hands straight out to your side and do 1 or 2 shoulder circles. Go with tiny loops then giant loops. Reverse the direction that you are going.

Swing

Ensure you take 1 or 2 swings before you play. Begin with 1 or 2 slow swings to be sure there isn’t any strain, then build up where you would swing quicker than ordinary.

Those three exercizes should take you all of five minutes. Those five minutes will get your body prepared for the round ahead. No more hearing popping and cracking as you make your first tee shot of the day.

Eliminate Getting Anxious When Golfing

It is inconsequential what talent level your golf game now sits at. It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been playing the game. It’s insignificant if you typically play for money, for bragging rights with your buddies, or in competitions competing for cash, prizes or pride. Very likely you’ve had to address nervousness while golfing at some particular point in your life.

This works because your mind is trained to decelerate when you are breathing slow and deep. If you breathe short and fast it triggers the flight or fight response, which causes your adreline to rush and your body to amp itself up in alternative ways.

Deep respiring works, but the other good piece of news is simply that experience lessens nerves too. Television announcers occasionally say that guys need to learn how to win. Fundamentally this suggests the golfers who are competing to win a tournament that haven’t been there before don’t know what happens next. They’re unacquainted with their surroundings. Blokes who’ve competed and won contests are more comfortable having gone through the fire.

The same occurs with you. The more people you play with, the more you realize other players are nothing to be fearful of. The more times you hit successful shots, the less fear you will have of screwing up. So just get out there and play!
