Practice Chipping When It’s Raining
You can’t always head outdoors to work on your game. The weather doesn’t often cooperate for good golfing conditions. Sometimes it is the rain other times it’s simply too cold. If you live in a chillier climate you might go several weeks without having the ability to make a run out to a golf course. What do you do to keep your short game intact? You practice chipping inside of course. There are a few things that you’re going to need if you are going to practice inside.
Room
The 1st is lots of space. You want at least 10 feet of open area. The ceilings don’t need to be that high since you won’t be taking the club back very far.
Mat
The second thing you must have is a mat to chip off of. You don’t want to wear down your carpet so pick up a mat which has very short fiber so it simulates the closely mown grass found on the fringe.
Balls
I wouldn’t recommend chipping with real balls as you might put a hole in the wall. Instead go for softer practice balls or wiffle balls that you can find at just about any golf shop.
Target
You’re going to require something to aim towards. You clearly aren’t going to need to put a hole in your floor so if you’d like to simulate a cup then use a red solo cup or any other plastic cup. This implies that the target will be two inches off the ground, but use your mind because at least it’s the right size.
What I like to use as a target is a handerchief or tissue. Then, instead of trying hard to get the ball to stop rolling on the target, I try and land the ball on the target. This helps me take my practice out to the course. The greens you play on aren’t going to be similar to your carpet when it comes to roll, but the distance your swing causes the ball to go in the air won’t be different.
